They are called water carriers, domestics, gregarious, who sacrifice their careers and personal victories, so their teammates can win the race. Arunas Matelis followed these Sancho Panza’s of professional cycling for 7 years during the prestigious “Giro d’Italia” and reveals the unseen world of wonderful losers from the point of view of the doctors’ team. Our bike heroes crash, rise – and race again.
Arūnas Matelis
Born in 1961 in Kaunas, Lithuania. Has directed 10 creative documentary shorts, which have been selected for Cannes, Rotterdam, Oberhausen, Torino, and much more. His previous feature documentary film BEFORE FLYING BACK TO THE EARTH (2005) has received more than 10 awards, including Directors’ Guild of America (DGA) Award, awards at IDFA Amsterdam, DOK Leipzig, European Film Academy nomination.
