Russian film director and scriptwriter Andrey Zvyagintsev to head the Jury of Main Competition of the XIX Minsk International Film Festival ‘Listapad’
Russian film director and scriptwriter Andrey Zvyagintsev is to be the jury chairman of Main Competition at the XIX Minsk International Film Festival ‘Listapad’, which will be held on November 2nd -9th.
His first feature film “The Return” (“Возращение”, 2003), a psychological drama “about love, loss and maturation”, became a world sensation and won a multitude of festival awards, including Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
The film director’s genius is then unveiled in his next work “The Banishment” (“Изгнание”, 2007). In tandem with the director of photography Mikhail Krichman Zvyagintsev instead of limiting himself to trivial nature shooting created a separate microcosm, in which each detail encompassed a meaningful and metaphoric notion. The leading actor of the film “The Banishment” Konstantin Lavronenko was awarded the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film “Elena” (“Елена”, 2011) is a social drama, which in comparison to the previous works is characterized by particular topicality. It won the director the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
It should be mentioned that Zvyagintsev’s film “Elena” opened the festival “Listapad” last year, and in 2003 his work “The Banishment” won Grand Prix Golden Listapad.
