For the First Time on “Listapad”: Minsk Planetarium will Show a Fulldome Cinema Program

A new platform joins the 25th Minsk International Film Festival “Listapad” – Minsk Planetarium organizes the Fulldome Competition for the audience. The program, which is dedicated to an innovative direction in the cinematography, will present more than 20 motion pictures from different countries of the world, it includes popular scientific films, musical shows, animation for children of junior and senior school. The competition will be presented within the Industry Days Bel:Cinema. One can become a part of the unique for Belarus cinema event from 3rd to 4th November.

Minsk International Fulldome Festival will show the achievements and the technologies of one of the youngest and most perspective directions in the cinematography – Fulldome Cinema. With the help of the modern digital projectors, the audience will be able to become a part of a film, perceive the atmosphere and literally view it from every side.

“Fulldome Cinema as a form was developed for planetariums in particular. Planetariums used to narrate mainly about cosmic phenomena, now here one can see films, which touch upon not only space theme. This program has feature films, popular scientific motion pictures, films about biology. That’s new for Belarus”, – says Aleksandr Mikulich, Head of the Minsk Planetarium. – When a viewer sits down in a chair, a film surrounds him/her from all the sides, several digital projectors create a three-dimensional picture. He/she appears plunged into the atmosphere of the film, into the action itself. Participation effect is gained in such way. It sets our screening apart from a usual cinema, where we sit in front of a square screen, or from 3D and VR, where special glasses make it inconvenient to watch”.

The competition program of the MIFF consists of three sections: Popular Scientific Documentaries Competition, Animation, and Short Films. Apart from the international jury, the films will be judged by the audience, which will be choosing the Audience Award Winner. “Fortunately, we’ve invited studios and planetariums from all over the world. Competition consists of the films, which have already been presented on Fulldome Festivals and became award winners. One can say, we’ve collected the best pictures of this industry”, – comments Aleksandr Mikulich on the Competition Program.

Within two days, the Minsk Planetarium will show films from Russia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, the USA, the Great Britain, France, China, Poland, Spain, Germany, Canada, Japan, Greece, and Belarus. More information is available on the official web site.
