The National Competition will be Judged by International Experts

Annually one of the most important sections of the Minsk International Film Festival – National Competition – presents the best of the new Belarusian films to the audience. Films, different in topics and genres, attract both national and foreign festival crowd. Forming the image of the modern cinema process in the country, “Listapad” finds it important that the motion pictures are judged by the international jury, which is able to determine the place of the Belarusian cinematography in the global context. This time the jury consists of Pascale Ramonda, Festival Agent from France, Renata Santoro, Selector for Giornate degli Autori of the Venice Film Festival, and Daria Yurkevich, Belarusian Director.

Professionals from different spheres of cinematography are invited as the jury of the National Competition: directors, producers, screenwriters, actors, film critics, representatives of international film festivals, distributors. When estimating the Belarusian program, including its compliance with the world tendencies, the experts are able to grasp and determine the status of the Belarusian cinematography in the film sphere in whole.

“National Competition is a specific space for us, some kind of a laboratory. As the modern Belarusian cinematography is dynamically shaping and only begins to turn to the global film industry, it needs to be encouraged and directed, and international experts help to discover talents and give them start in life”, – says Igor Sukmanov, Program Director of “Listapad”.

Igor Sukmanov: “Films will be judged not by just directors and festival agents, but by professionals with their own concept of world and art. Their “Fs” and “As” will be objective grades, as they rationally and practically estimate the modern film processes. Those, on whom in many ways films’ destiny depends, are invited to be the jury. It is a good opportunity for them to see something that we have, and for us – to help the Belarusian film to shoot ahead”.
