At a sports boarding school in Berlin , Ava, 12, has been a gymnast as long as she can remember. Her mother introduced her to gymnastics at an early age. But when, one day, her mother unexpectedly dies everything changes. Driven by the hope that gymnastics might bring her closer to her mother and dull the pain, Ava trains harder than ever. Everything seems to be going well until events beyond her control force Ava to start making her own decisions.
Born and raised in Berlin, Sabine first found work as a flight attendant with the German airline Lufthansa. From there she started an internship at a casting agency, where she assisted in the casting of movies and commercial films. In 2002 she began her studies at the University of the Arts in London before changing to the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin where she studied directing. During her studies, she wrote and directed several short films. AVA is her graduate thesis film.
